IC Imagine Families,
As we come to the end of the fall season, we want to take a moment to reflect on all the wonderful events that have taken place. From the Fine Arts 5k, Upper School Clue Theatre production, to multiple band and chorus concerts, it has been a fantastic autumn. If you are free tonight, we invite you to join us for the Band Concert – an evening of winter music that is sure to be unforgettable.

Middle School Band
The concert band consists of mostly 7th graders and is a fairly new ensemble to the ICI Band Program. They are currently preparing music for their next concert as well as solos of All District Band Auditions! We are so proud of their progress this year - they are a very talented group!
The Symphonic Band is performing so very well this year and has a great set of music planned for their next concert! They have also begun working on the new Kingfisher fight song as well as many others. They are a group with loads of musical energy!
Upper School Band
The upper school Wind Symphony has also been hard at work preparing for their upcoming concert. They are allowed to take part in the Honors Track in upper school which allows for an extra half of GPA credit and requires them to do additional outside work in order to earn the credit. These students are currently working on their audition for All District Band in January!
Middle School Chorus
The middle school chorus put in a lot of hard work in preparation for their winter concert this past Tuesday. The favorite piece of the evening was “On With The Snow!”, a combination of “Sleigh Ride”, “Winter Wonderland”, and “Let it Snow!” They accepted a new challenge of singing in three part harmony and did quite well. Additionally, they have been learning how to read music using rhythms and solfege.
Upper School Chorus
The upper school choruses worked hard to prepare for their winter concert on Tuesday. All three choruses learned music with four part harmonies and did quite well conquering that challenge. Highlights from the evening included a rendition of the Pentatonix song “White Winter Hymnal” and a piece by recording artist Enya called “Amid the Falling Snow.” They ended the evening with a group piece that included all the choruses singing an arrangement of “Jingle Bells.”
Additionally, the choruses have been working on reading music using solfege and rhythms.

In the Visual Art World
Lower School Art
K-3rd graders are creating artworks inspired by painter Wayne Thiebaud. We are drawing food and feasts using basic 3D forms.
4th graders are developing their digital art making skills. We are using an online animation program called piskel to create short animations.
5th graders are working on a cross curricular project art and Spanish involving the study of Mexican printmaker, José Guadalupe Posada. We created relief prints of calaveras.
Middle School Art
In middle school we finished some amazing sculptural faces. Advanced 8th grade is still working on some larger sculptural faces which will actually be worn. Look for photos of those works in the next newsletter.
We have now begun a unit on watercolors. As an introduction to the unit and some specific techniques we painted leaves which we used to complete a collaborative public art piece which is on display in the hallway. Below are some images of the art piece as well as some details of the leaves.
Upper School Art
In the Art world in the Upper School we have been putting our chess and sculpting skills to good use by creating Chess Piece Sculptures out of cardboard in Art 1. Each student picked out 2 different chess pieces, then they sketched it out, made a plan, gathered materials, and started working on many different creative pieces out of cardboard.
Art 2 has done a fabulous job on their Pointillism Paintings. They brought their artistic vision to life in many different ways and every student's work is eye-catching. As we continue to explore our artistic abilities, I cannot wait to see what comes next out of their imaginations. These incredible works of art were created on cardboard.
Art 3 is currently working on their scroll saw puzzle. Each student designed a puzzle and is currently adding the finishing touches to it. . Students took time cutting out each piece on their puzzle out and spent time observing the artwork and studying the elements of art before applying their skills to create their own replica of art.
We will be exploring many different avenues in art 3 as we continue to broaden our imaginations.
