Lower School Music
We have been singing, dancing, and playing instruments. Kindergarten has been playing singing games like “Doggie Where’s Your Bone?”. First grade is accompanying songs with a simple drone on xylophones. 2nd grade has been working on performing three rhythms simultaneously with speech and body percussion. Third grade is singing and dancing “Alabama Gal” and adding harmonic accompaniment on xylophones. Fourth grade is playing an African American clapping game “Banana Split” and performing it in a jazz inspired arrangement on xylophones and percussion. Fifth grade is learning a difficult minor melody on xylophones and choreographing movement.
Middle and Upper School Bands
The middle and upper school bands are gearing up for their first concert on November 21st! Rehearsals have been going very well and we are excited to showcase some of our talents with some fall and winter favorites!
Middle and Upper School Chorus
Before Fall Break, the Middle and Upper School Choruses had their Fall concert, with a theme of the Music of Fall. Each group performed 3-4 pieces of music, all centered on the sights and sounds of the Fall season. Some of the pieces performed included the Beginning Middle School Chorus’s favorite piece, “The Bat” and the Intermediate Middle School Chorus’s favorite piece, “A Dark and Stormy Night.” The Upper School Mixed Chorus performed a favorite piece, “Who Has Seen the Wind?” and the Upper School Section Ensemble performed a favorite from Harry Potter, “Double Trouble.” Lastly, the Upper School Chamber Choir performed a ballad, “When October Goes.”

Kindergarten and 1st
These students are creating 3-D looking oil pastel drawings of pie slices. We were inspired by the artist Wayne Theibaud
.
2nd Grade
These students are studying the work of Wayne Theibaud and creating drawings of feasts featuring their favorite foods.
3rd Grade and 4th Grade
These students are honing their water color skills. We have finished a project of a 3-D castle carefully watercolored using proper techniques. We started this project before Fall break and it’s really satisfying to finish them of strong
5th Grade
These students have completed a self directed artwork of a lighthouse. They were tasked with choosing two or three elements of art to emphasize in their image and choose the best media to execute it. We will do a critique in the coming weeks to reflect on our hard work.
Middle School Visual Art
Middle school visual artists are currently in the process of creating their own murals which we will then make in the hallways around middle school. It has been kind of beautiful watching students create designs. Some have messages that the whole school needs to see, some are simply making beautiful works of art that will brighten the spaces that we walk through every day.
The students below are practicing their murals in our classroom so that they can figure out most of the logistics before they make their final work in the hallways. I look forward to showing you finished murals with the next newsletter.

Ceramics 1, and 2
Wow ! What an interesting few weeks it has been. The students have been great as we figured out the clay situation and they have been busy creating small food and animal sculptures.
Ceramics 1 has been busy glazing the mask/portraits they created as well!
Ceramics 2 had been working on clocks- but with the extended time off most will be starting over. Here is an example of one that did get finished and the clock mechanism was put in.
They are also excited to get back on the wheels and start working on their bowls sets.
Art 1 - They are learning about radial symmetry and we looked at mandala designs. They are currently working on their final pieces. These are on vinyl albums that will be softened and shaped into fluted bowl like shapes. These pieces will be used later in a large group sculpture that many students and classes will contribute to.
Digital Photo 1 and 2 have been busy completing work from Q1 .
Look for what they have been accomplishing in the next newsletter.
Digital Art 1- have also been busy completing work from Q1 .
They are currently creating Travel Posters! Their creativity is incredible to see and I am excited to share those with you all in the next newsletter.
