Lower School

Lower School Families,

Thanks for a wonderful first week of school! We have loved seeing your students engaged in their classrooms, investment classes, and making new friends at lunch and recess. Thank you for your continued support to help make it such a successful week!

We know the carline can be a challenging thing to learn and navigate. Thank you for your continued patience as we smooth out our systems and work to make it faster! As a reminder, Lower school dismissal starts at 2:20 and ends at 3:00. Dismissal after 3:00 involves 650 other students and is much more chaotic than the Lower School only portion. If you are only picking up a lower school student, you should arrive before 2:50 so that you can use the Lower School only carline. Please review the general arrival and dismissal reminders below.

After school activities will begin after Labor Day.  For a list of those available this fall, please visit our After School Activities webpage for more information.  Opportunities include Soccer Shots, AMOS, Lacrosse, Mountain Biking and Battle of the Books, just to name a few!  (Please note that the MTB interest form closes on Friday, August 23rd.)

Lower school t-shirts are coming this fall!  Each grade will have a specific color.  These shirts  can be worn for field trips, Spring Fun Run, Field Day, and general spirit wear.  Pre-orders will be required.  We will begin accepting orders next Friday, August 23rd, and will stop accepting pre-orders on September 1st.

IC Imagine and the Buncombe County Public Library are partnering to support students’ ongoing education. We share the belief that a love of books and learning is a strong foundation for student success and we are working together to provide every IC Imagine student access to books and resources found at their public library.

All IC Imagine students are able to use their Student ID number to access and borrow public library books and resources. This initiative is called StudentAccess. To learn more or opt out of this service visit our website

Thank you for your patience during arrival and dismissal this week. Here are a few things you can do to support our entire community:

  • In all cases:  Stay off your phone.  Do not video your students while driving away.  Stay in your vehicle (we have staff to assist).

  • Arrival:  While you are waiting on the loop, have your child(ren) unbuckle, gather his/her belongings and be prepared to exit your vehicle when you get to the sidewalk.  This small act, when done by everyone, can help us unload students faster which means cars move faster.

  • Dismissal:  Arrive at your designated time.  This means if you have a yellow or blue tag, you should not turn onto campus until 2:20.  You should not arrive on campus early to park and wait.  When cars arrive prior to 2:20, it causes a line to form which doesn’t allow for families coming to pick-up children early the ability to get into the parking lot, it can prevent emergency vehicles from arriving on campus should there be an emergency, and it creates unsafe conditions on McIntosh Road.

We have received several inquiries asking for help in finding potential carpools.  If you are seeking assistance, complete this ride-sharing form by Friday, August 23rd.  All responses will be shared with others who submitted information in hope that you may be able to connect with another family in your area with whom to partner.

We still have space on the morning bus from the Asheville Outlets.  If you are interested in using the option for arrival (and saving yourself time in the arrival line), complete the application and submit your rider agreement.  Information can be found on our website.

All our best,

Jamie Williams & Ellen Girardi
