Upper School

Upper School Families,

Kindness Ambassadors of the Month.   As we continue to work towards a culture of kindness, each class nominated a Kindness Ambassador of the month.  We celebrated these students on the announcements and they were treated to a lunch of their choice last Friday.

  • 9th Grade…Julian Kasalu “Always very sweet and nice. Always wants the best for you.”

  • 10th Grade…Asa Gura “Kind and fun, always making people smile.” (not pictured)

  • 11th Grade…Robert Gibson Calloway “He’s always so kind to everyone.”

  • 12th Grade…Willie Gregory “He always cheers me up!”

As we head into the final stretch of the 23-24 school year we have many fun things on the horizon for our students!

Our prom is tonight at the Capital Club of Asheville.  We expect it to be a wonderful evening filled with dancing and fun!  We will have lots of pictures to share in our next newsletter.

Next week, our Seniors will journey off to Camp Talisman for our inaugural Senior Picnic.  Seniors will be able to take advantage of the many outdoor activities, including swimming, yard games, basketball, slip n slide and more.  A hot dog cookout will be provided, along with a photo booth for seniors to enjoy with their classmates.   There are lots of exciting things happening for the Class of 2024.  Please click here to see it all.

Many of our students are currently taking their AP Exams this week and next.  They have worked hard all year to learn the material and these tests determine if they will receive college credit.  We wish them all good luck!

We are proud to introduce Kingfisher Mentor Connections, a new school-wide mentoring program.  This initiative aims to establish a supportive environment for students to connect, exchange experiences, and form enduring friendships. The program is designed to facilitate important relationships spanning different ages and grades. We will be pairing upper school students with middle school students and middle school students with lower school students.   We are excited to utilize our K-12 community to build positive relationships and connections across our school and anticipate expanding this program next school year.  Our Upper School mentors are: Wallace, Julia, Kalani, Maya, Sophie, Willow, Adah, Alex, Avary, Sawyer, Brooke, Asher, Meadow, Mathieu, Malachi, Jordan, Sofia, and Ava.

Our Spring Musical, Mamma Mia! is next week.  Please consider purchasing tickets and supporting our Theatre students.  They have been preparing for months and we expect it to be an amazing production. Purchase tickets here.

The Kingfisher Fun Run is happening this coming Thursday, May 16th!  We appreciate the support of our Upper School families who have registered and shared their fundraising page with family and friends.  Through reaching others, we are well on our way to reaching our goal.  On Thursday, our Upper School students will have opportunities to cheer on our lower and middle school students.

Our Spring Bulb Sale is happening now! Proceeds benefit our new Greenhouse. Let's sow the seeds of success together. Click here to purchase

Please make sure your students are taking care of attendance make-up if needed.  Remember students are only allowed to miss 7 days per course.    For more information about attendance make-up, please visit our website:  https://www.icimagine.org/o/ic-imagine/page/attendance-makeup-schedule-and-waivers

A few students may find that they need to utilize summer school for attendance make-up or course recovery.  Our counselors, Mr. Frank and Ms. Vernau have emailed any parent of a child who is at risk for failure due to attendance and summer school and we will be supporting these students.  More information about summer school can be found here: https://www.icimagine.org/o/ic-imagine/page/upper-school-summer-school-information

Finally, it has been a wonderful Teacher Appreciation Week.  We appreciate how the families have come together to make our teachers feel special. The work hard each and every day, and the sweet treats, breakfast choices, beverages, fruit and gifts have been meaningful.  Again, thanks to those of you who have been a part of the efforts to make this week notable.

Have a great weekend,

Jenn Townley & Meg Turner
