Middle and Upper School Band

Arya Patel (bassoon) on left, Julian Kasalu (french horn) on right

We were very honored to send 2 very deserving high school students to the All State Band Clinic this past weekend! After two auditions, one into All District Band and then journeying on to the All State competition, both Julian Kasalu (french horn) and Arya Patel (bassoon) earned spots in the All State Band and attended the clinic at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. Among the best 9th and 10th graders in the state, their concert was phenomenal - a very successful weekend for all!

All four bands performed at the Dollywood Trills and Thrills Festival this past week and did remarkably well! For their first adjudicated performance, the beginning band received Excellent Ratings - we are so proud of their hard work and focus! The Concert, Symphonic, and Wind Symphony bands all received Superior Ratings! We are incredibly proud of all students in these ensembles for a great public performance and representing our school well!

Middle School and Upper School Chorus

Last week, all the choruses participated in the Dollywood Trills and Thrills Music Festival. While there, the groups each performed two selections for adjudicators from the University of Tennessee and Lee University. All three groups received ratings of excellent for their performances. Afterward, the groups enjoyed time exploring Dollywood. Congratulations to all the choruses on their performances!

Students are also hard at work rehearsing for our Spring Musical:  Mamma Mia!

We are still looking for Sponsors and resources/materials to help us purchase costumes and build our set.  If you know of a business that would be interested in being a sponsor, please contact our Upper School Theatre Teacher, Mr. Campbell (bryancampbell@icimagine.org).  If you have access to construction materials and would like to assist with building our Mamma Mia set, our next two set build days will be Saturday, May 4 and Saturday, May 11.  Set build days last from 10am - 4pm.  Upper School students who are not in the production can earn service hours for volunteering.

Lower School Art

In 5th grade, students have learned about the contemporary artist Crystal Wagner.  We are creating various artworks inspired by her process.  5th graders are starting a printmaking project using imagery found in her work.

In Kindergarten through Third Grade, students are working with clay.  Some are creating jewelry, some are making pots and some have created silly monsters.

In Fourth Grade, students have studied two local fiber artists, have created their own looms and will be working toward finishing their own weavings.

Middle School Art

Here are a few of the amazing self-portraits that 6th, 7th, and 8th grade have created:

Upper School Art

Digital Photography 1 Our students are shrinking!!!! Students are working on a project called “Honey I Shrunk my Class”.   Students are photographing different environments and then using layers putting miniature people ( other students they have photographed) into them.  These are in the works so stay tuned!

Digital Art 1-Students are working on creating their very own cereal boxes. They have had to create them from the ground up and have learned a bit about working in Photopea along the way.  When they are finished the boxes will be printed, cut, and folded into the full 3-D box!

Ceramics 1- Is that music I hear or is there a train coming? Ceramics 1 is finishing up the construction on their animal whistles!! Some have started their last project - a hard slab box with carved or impressed texture.

Art 1- We are currently working on exploring symmetry by creating a collage that includes radial, symmetrical, and asymmetrical designs.

Art 2 -We have started the 4th quarter exploring light, using pastels to let the light inside of us shine. It is great to see how these artists express the light they want to see in the world and I can't wait to share the rest of their work.

Art 3-We are in the process of completing our children's book and this class has been working hard on their storylines and doing a great job on producing meaningful work.  They have also created art for the NC District 11 Congressional Art competition and I am proud of the work we have  submitted.
