Middle School Newsletter

Middle School Families,

What another wild week it has been in Western North Carolina! We remain hopeful for a full week of school in the upcoming week.

Scheduled for February 6, from 4:00 - 6:00 pm, are the much-anticipated Student-Led Conferences. We'll be sending out a sign-up sheet, allowing your child to guide you through a conference and share their middle school learning journey. Preparation for these conferences will kick off in advisory and classrooms during the coming week. Keep an eye out for more detailed information next week, and mark your calendars to enjoy a Chipotle dinner that evening!

Middle School Fundraiser

Help Middle School raise funds for field trips such as the 8th Grade Washington DC trip and the return of the 6th Grade Barrier Islands trip (fall 2024)! Come eat dinner at Chipotle on February 6th before or after your student-led conference. 33% of the event sales go back to our middle school community!

Human Trafficking Prevention Month

January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, which raises awareness about human trafficking and serves to educate the public about how to identify and prevent it. The Center for Safer Schools is doing its part by hosting eight simultaneous screenings of the film “Choices” across each of its eight educational regions.  The screenings will be held at several locations across the state on Thursday, Jan. 25 from 6:00-7:30 p.m.  The Western location is Minitorium, 175 Bingham Road, Asheville.  Following the screenings, Center for Safer Schools staff will facilitate a discussion about the film and how it relates to human trafficking.  RSVP at https://forms.gle/gzmgVUiZAFWkiaRK7. If you have questions, send an email to cfss@dpi.nc.gov.

 IPO/ Parent University

January's IPO and Parent University have been rescheduled to Monday, February 19th at 5:30 pm.  The Parent University will focus on "How to Support Emotional Well-Being," with our Mental Health team presenting valuable information about Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). We will cover what SEL is and isn't and how we implement systemic SEL at all school levels. Additionally, we will share insights on what parents can do at home to support their children's social and emotional growth.
