Upper School Families,

Students were provided with their progress reports. Students have plenty of opportunities to raise those grades prior to the end of the quarter. For those of you who are off to a great start, stay the course!

Please check out this upcoming opportunity to learn about an outside agency, Watauga Opportunities, who can work with your student on postsecondary goal preparation through their Pre Employment Transition Services (PreETS) program.  This program helps establish goals and resources needed to help students gain independence, learn job skills, obtain internships, and job shadow in our community.  They currently have slots available to work with students on our campus.  To learn more please consider attending one of the upcoming informational seminars.

Qualifying students:

The Staff Appreciation Committee would like to remind you that you have the opportunity to express your appreciation for our teachers by sharing words of affirmation. Simple words of gratitude, recognition, and encouragement mean a lot to our teachers and staff. We will be gathering your quotes throughout the year and using them to decorate workroom doors and walls. You can write something today that will bring a smile to someone's face.

This week we are highlighting our Upper School Science Department.

Educator Spotlight Mr. Zimmer joined ImagiNation last school year. He immediately took off running. He is lovingly called Mr. Z by his students and colleagues. He is quick to say yes any time he is asked to help with a task or school-based activity for students. He never misses an opportunity to build rapport with students while simultaneously holding them accountable to the classroom and school-wide expectations. He attended Brevard College (Summa Cum Laude) and worked in Henderson County schools for eight years prior to joining IC Imagine. He teaches Chemistry and Physical Science in the Upper School. He is an avid scientist and loves to learn how things work.  In addition to being a passionate educator, he plays drums in a couple of local bands. When at home, he loves spending time in the garden and doing projects around the house with his wife. Mr. Zimmer recently became a grandfather and allows the distraction of his grandchild to interrupt most any personal activity or task.

Mr. Macken’s PLTW Engineering Essentials class spent time this week researching and debating the ethics surrounding the use of drones for delivery services.

Mr. Ray’s biology class participated in a lab where they extracted the DNA from strawberries.

Have a great weekend,
