Late Work and Revisions
Upper School Late Work/Revisions Procedures
Teacher Commitment
At minimum, grades will be updated into Infinite Campus prior to progress reports and report cards so that students and families are receiving timely feedback on learning progress.
Grades for most assessments will be entered within one working week of the due date so that students and families are receiving timely feedback on learning progress. However, larger assignments (projects, papers, etc.) may take longer than one week to provide meaningful feedback.
Once a quarter ends, grades for that quarter will be finalized and therefore cannot be changed. In order to allow time for retakes, no new grades will be entered into the gradebook during the last two weeks of any quarter.
Late Work and Retake Policy
At IC Imagine Public Charter School, we believe in providing opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning and mastery of content in a supportive and equitable environment. Our approach to grading is based on the mastery of standards, aiming to accurately reflect each student's understanding of the curriculum. To ensure fairness and consistency, we have established the following policies regarding late work and retakes:
Late Work Policy:
1. **Submission Deadline**: Assignments are expected to be submitted by the specified deadline outlined by the teacher. This deadline allows for timely feedback and ensures students stay on track with their learning.
2. **Late Submission**: Late submissions will be accepted within a reasonable grace period, typically one to two class periods, unless otherwise specified by the teacher. A grade of a zero will be entered for any student who does not complete the assignment by the due date. However, this grade will be replaced in full once the student completes the assignment.
Retake Procedure:
1. **Purpose of Retakes**: The primary purpose of retakes is to provide students with additional opportunities to demonstrate mastery of learning objectives after receiving feedback and further study.
2. **Eligibility**: Students who receive a grade below proficiency on an assessment, as determined by the standards-based grading rubric, are eligible for a retake. In order to be eligible for a retake, the original assessment must be completed by the student before the final two weeks of the quarter.
3. **Retake Process**:
a. Students must first meet with their teacher to review the assessment and identify areas for improvement.
b. Prior to the retake, students are expected to engage in targeted practice or additional instruction to address areas of weakness.
c. The retake assessment will cover the same standards but will be modified to ensure a fair evaluation of student learning.
d. The higher of the two scores (original assessment or retake) will be recorded in the gradebook, with the intention of reflecting the student's current level of mastery.
e. There will be no retakes for grades that are in a quarter that has ended (i.e. a student may not retake an assessment from Q1 once Q2 has begun).
General Procedures:
1. **Communication**: Teachers will clearly communicate expectations regarding deadlines, late work penalties, and retake procedures at the beginning of each course. Teachers should include this information in every syllabus and should review these procedures with students after each assessment.
2. **Equity and Accommodation**: Accommodations will be provided for students with documented disabilities or extenuating circumstances, ensuring equitable access to opportunities for learning and assessment.
