Facility History
As with any new organization, there are challenges to face and obstacles to overcome, and IC Imagine was no different, especially with regards to its facility needs with a growing enrollment. Due to the tireless dedication, sound fiscal management and strong leadership of the Board of Directors and Administration, the school was able to proactively address each challenge in its search for a permanent location.
In August 2014, IC Imagine opened its doors in 2014, transforming 32,000 square feet of vacant space at the end of a strip mall, to 350 students in grades K-6 and 9-10 with 18 faculty members. Word spread quickly about IC Imagine, and in its second year (15-16), the school more than doubled in size to 750 students and 70 faculty. This growth meant additional space was needed and the school was able to expand into adjacent vacant space to increase to 70,000 square feet.
In its third year (16-17), the school grew to 850 students with 85 faculty and now had students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Due to solid fiscal management, IC Imagine was able to purchase 47-acres for its permanent campus in the spring of 2017 and begin the work of designing and constructing its school building.
No matter how creative the staff was with utilizing and sharing space, the school had quickly outgrown this location, so in the fall of 2017 (17-18), the school opened with two campuses – lower and middle school in its original location and upper school in rented office space across town.
With ownership of the land, the school’s fifth year (18-19) opened with 1050 students and 110 faculty. The Lower School completely filled the leased space on Brevard Road and the Middle and Upper Schools relocated to leased modular classroom buildings on the upper portion of the new campus.
In August 2019 (19-20) as the school began its sixth year, IC Imagine proudly opened the doors to its new facility at 110 Champion Way and brought everyone together under one roof! This 3-floor 115,000 square foot building includes classrooms; science labs; visual arts, music, band and theatre spaces; a gymnasium with locker room; performing arts center; school-based health center; and pantry. Outside there is a playground, turf field and outdoor basketball court.
The Kingfisher Trail, a 3.1 mile cross country, was completed in the Spring 2023. Over the 2023 summer, a permanent stage was constructed in the Imagine Performing Arts Center.
Future plans for the school’s 47-acre campus include an athletic complex, complete with two fields, a field house, and additional parking.
