OneLife is a two-part student development program that takes place in Buncombe and Madison county high schools. Part one is an in-school portion where students and Youth Development Specialists meet together once a week for 13 weeks to discuss life and workplace skills such as building workplace skills, money management, how to get and keep a job, and more.

These meetings are discussion-based and help students develop soft skills and boost job readiness skills. Once completed, students are then eligible for part two of the program which is a paid workplace experience, or internship.

Each internship takes place during the summer and is specific to what the student is interested in as a career. Each student makes $13/hour for 100 hours of work and gains real-world work experience under a professional in their field.

Eligibility:

  • 16-18 years old.

  • Currently enrolled in a Buncombe or Madison County high school.

  • Be able to provide your own transportation to and from the internship.

How to enroll: There is a 3-step process to joining OneLife. We recruit every year during January and accept 15-20 students per school.

  • Show up. Come to our interest meeting to get more info about the program. For details on your

school’s meeting, listen to announcements or go talk to your school counselor.

  • Apply. At the meeting, you will receive an application and teacher recommendation that must

    be filled out.

  • Interview. You will go through an interview with OneLife mentors and a school counselor that

    will last 5-10 min.
